Migrants Imported Direct to the Employer!

For users of this web site that are not migration agents or working with one, services are limited. Although we can can discuss all aspects of a case with migration agents, we are not Registered Migration Agents and therefore cannot enter into discussions about visas with individual applicants. This is law in Australia.

Please note, our service is legally not available to Australian permanent residents - people who have been granted a visa and are already living permanently in Australia. Our service is limited to those who are still resident offshore and seek work in Australia.

Please refer to the legal reference if you wish to continue with us.

We cannot tell you IF you qualify for a visa, but we can tell you if we can find an employer that might be interested in hiring you within the visa framework that applies to you. Beyond that, if you need the services of a migration agent, visit this link.

That’s the official bit out of the way.

Migrants who use our services fall into four categories:

  1. Those who require a job offer before a visa or Government sponsorship can be secured
  2. Those who already have a visa and want to avoid wasting time and money, preferring to have work waiting for them soon after their arrival in Australia.
  3. Those who have ended up being ‘pooled’ on the Skills Matching database and want to get off it.
  4. Students who have completed a course of Australian study and now need to work for a specific period in their field of study before applying for a permanent visa.

State Government sponsorship is something that is more easily achieved if a job offer is put forward in support of the sponsorship request.

Migrants have various visa options, a summary of which is presented here.

After looking at the options, if you find yourself requiring a job offer, sponsorship or the points that come with either, the next step forward is to send in your CV and fill out the worksheet.

We can then assess the quality of the document, your employability and advise about industries or regions that have a higher likelihood of needing your skills.

We compare your profile against a database of regional skills shortages across Australia, State Government sponsoring requirements, employer organisations and businesses. Targeting the most likely industry in the most likely region is the fastest way to find you work and gives the best starting point.

If your CV is not up to local standards, we will ask you to have it reformatted (and yes you get the revised copy to use in other applications you may make independent of our service). We use the services of the CV expert Tom Hannemann.

Tom has been a professional resume writer who has been Seek’s resident resume expert for the past six years and has helped people from many countries successfully enter the Australian job market through professionally written resumes for the past 10 years,

Here is the link to the CV page where you can upload your CV against create your own file number. You will also find details of time and cost to reformat your CV if this is required and if you agree to it.

Once you decide to proceed, you will need to arrange payment for the services selected, and enrol as a client on this page. You should budget a fee equivalent to around one month salary in Australia to retain us for the search. (Migration agents please note, we offer reduced fees for contract agents who provide us with “search ready” cases.)

When deciding whether this is a reasonable fee range, please consider the following timelines that would apply to someone who is changing career, changing country, or both!

Note the 13 - 21 week timeframe... and work out the costs.

Work out your own costs by selecting items in the table below, multiply by 3 months, and add up the numbers.

For example, taking the airfare, motel, bus/tram, internet cafe and broadband costs to add to food, phone and entertainment, the cost of finding your own work for a UK person would be around A$13,590 for a 3 month search - before allowing for wages lost in the home country!

That might add another $14,000 for 13 weeks lost income with an average UK wage, giving a total of $27,590 to come to Australia and hunt for employment. When an Australian or employer looks at it like this, they will get an appreciation of the real commitment and investment that a migrant is prepared to make to obtain a better life in Australia.

This does not include removal costs of around $12,000, furniture and car replacement costs plus household establishment costs such as a full grocery cupboard, utility bonds, school uniforms etc.

NB. This table does not includes costs for family if they all arrived together. That would add around $500 to $800 per month in extra food and living costs, without schooling, health, dental etc. In this table, all costs are monthly expenses except for airfares.

These costs are real, derived from:

  • living expenses in a cheap hostel such as the YMCA
  • an old but reliable car, 180,000 kms wear and tear, lowest insurance
  • lost earnings, using professional salary for skilled job in a city
  • travel costs, return airfare for one person to do job search

In comparison, Hire A Migrant’s fee is usually less than one month’s ongoing cost.

The estimated costs of Do-It-Yourself are available as a self-calculation worksheet.

These do not include furniture shipping costs, furniture and car replacement expense, household establishment costs such as a full grocery cupboard, utility bonds, school uniforms etc.

In comparison, our fee is usually less than one months ongoing cost.

These numbers probably make you wan to earn more with your Australian job, going against your original willingness to take a lower salary as a first job starting point. With a good personal search strategy, aiming high is the right thing to do.

One word of advice when negotiating salary: as a migrant, you should value your skills and recognise that many employers are unaware of the drawbacks and advantages of different visas, indeed many are not aware that their sponsorship or support is allowed or may even be legal! Educating the employer may help you secure a more substantial salary and give the employer peace of mind.

Taking the initiative to discuss visa options and expectations is something you should do during the first interview.

We suggest you read everything to do with the different visa options, work out your strengths and earning requirements and what you are prepared to concede, and if you have any concerns then take professional advice, and don’t give up!.
